Grace Church taking Action

My home church in Asheville, Grace Community Church, takes a couple days each year to contribute to our surrounding community directly. Grace In Action travelled to different locations such as schools and recycling plants.

Habitat Environmentally Friendly

Habitat for Humanity has always tried to be environmentally friendly, but this past month they reached a new level of environmentalism. they build a house that is LEED certified. this required a lot of work and effort but now Habitat hopes to have all future houses become LEED certified and environmentally friendly. i had the amazing opportunity to photograph the dedication of the first LEED certified house.

The King's Glorious Kitchen

King's Kitchen is a fabulous restaurant located downtown charlotte. not only do they have amazing southern cuisine with a twist but they also happen to be a non-profit! King's Kitchen donates their profits right back to the local community and is committed to making charlotte even better. the food is great, the atmosphere is inviting and the impact is astronomical.

Inspirational Lorax

The Lorax by Dr. Seuss is one of my favorite childhood/adulthood books. i think so much can be learned from many of the Dr. Seuss books and as you can tell, i named this blog based on this specific book. its all about the character the lorax who 'speaks for the trees for the trees have no tongues'. its all about protecting things that cannot protect or speak for themselves. this is what my photography is all about so i figured i would revisit my inspiration and photograph it my way. these images mostly follow the plot line of the book and i have specific quotes to accompany many of the pictures. if you have not read this book, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! it is an amazing book and an amazing story in itself. and its of course fun.

My website that Speaks for the Unspoken

I have officially published my website. it features my non-profit work as well as personal and environmental work. it's all about speaking for things that cannot speak for themselves, a major theme in The Lorax by Dr. Seuss: which gave me my inspiration for everything i do in my career now basically.
For those of you that dont know, the picture is of the actual 'lorax' character from Dr. Seuss's book.

Behind the Habitat

Here are the remainder of the pictures from my shoot at Habitat for Humanity. They are the behind the scenes that no-one normally thinks about. but every non-profit involves as much business and work as a profit making corporation. the people that work here are simply extra special and they deserve as much attention as the people building houses. Habitat is an amazing organization and they are currently working on a environmentally friendly house, LEED certified. They hope that most, if not all, of their future builds will be LEED certified and environmentally friendly. i will be shooting that dedication so pictures will follow.

even our plants want peace in this world.

About a year ago, i went to Julia's Coffee to take pictures for a project. it was the first time i had really worked with a non-profit on a photography project. this project lead to me inevitably choosing to work with non-profits as a career. i revisited the pictures and converted them to black and white, because i wanted to. since i myself used to work in a coffee shop, this project hit home with me and how anything can become a non-profit and make a difference. i simply wanted to portray the fun, warm, friendly environment you will find at Julia's Coffee.

Habitat Connecting to Humanity

For my corporate/industrial class, we had to find/create a company and take pictures in the offices. I of course wanted to work with a non-profit in the area to build my experience working with them so i chose Habitat for Humanity. this shoot was different though because i was shooting the pictures in the offices and they were simply pictures of business meetings or customer service... normally i enjoy being out in the field and taking pictures of action and stuff happening but this shoot turned out to be really fun and i now know i can work with people in their offices and take whatever kind of pictures they need. all the people at Habitat for Humanity were welcoming and willing to do whatever to make a good photo.
